Insurance is based on vehicle classes. In Germany, there is a corresponding insurance for each vehicle class. The vehicle classes differ, among other things, in the maximum speed at which the vehicle can travel.
The annual premiums for third party insurance range from 60-70 €, depending on the insurance company.
Insurance for electric scooters up to 45 km/h
Even for electric scooters up to 45 km/h, at least third-party insurance is required. Since electric scooters are becoming more and more popular, some insurance companies now also offer partial comprehensive insurance for these electric scooters.
Insurance for electric scooters up to 80 km/h
If an electric scooter travels faster than 45 km/h, an official number plate is required. This applies to so-called e-mopeds. Here, the compulsory insurance for all vehicle owners is at least third party insurance. However, partial or fully comprehensive insurance for motor vehicles is also possible.
Insurance electric scooter 125cc class
In order to be allowed to drive a 125cc electric scooter on the road, the vehicle must be registered. Anyone registering a new 125cc motorbike must be able to produce a purchase contract and a type certificate as well as proof of insurance. Here, too, liability insurance is a minimum requirement. A number plate is then attached to the rear of the 125cc electric scooter.
